When you hear about afrocolombians maybe you don't take so much care about it, but currently the afrocolombians are being discriminated. Proof of this is that the afro children have less oportunities than the other kids. Also there are less jobs to afro people than withe people. Sometimes they also are victims of discrimination and bad treats. There are people with a giant lack of education, who said cruel comments and make everybody feel uncomfortable. Basing on this i can only say one thing, we have to learn how to be more respectful, left the racism and be more intelligent.

ReplyDeleteAfroColombians are human beings as we are, but the problem right now in XXI century is that as they're minorities their rights are not being respected, because of different reasons like the horror caused by armed groups, they are forced to belonging to that groups and if they refuse pass to be "dead people". Today, the AfroColombian population has some of the worst social indicators in Colombia, demonstrating extreme disparities between Afro-Colombians and the rest of the population. The combination of poverty, insecurity and legal invisibility made the rural AfroColombian people living far from centers. How is it possible that this occur in this century in which the governments and people can interfere, join in or help to those groups in need? The principal problem is that colombians in general are not aware and doesn´t have the disposition or attitude to make the difference because is a problem that doesn´t touch them.
ReplyDeleteAfrocolombians: basically colombians of african descent, they can be found in regions such as Choco, Buenaventura, Cali, Cartegena, San Andres Island, and throughout the country. Colombians do not define their races as black or whites but degrees of black, white, and indian, with numerous constructs in between.
ReplyDeleteThe term "negro" is rarily used in Colombia and can be taken as disparaging. Moreno(brown), gente de color(people of color), libres (free people), costeno (coastal dwellers) are terms used to describe Afro-Colombians. After increased political gains in the 1980s the terms Afro-Colombiano, La Comunida Negra( black community) are used by the government.

The black population of Colombia is constituted by the descendants of African ethnic groups from Africa.
ReplyDeleteInside the black or Afro-Colombian population can differentiate four major groups: those that are located in the corridor of the Colombian Pacific, native islanders of the Archipelago of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina, the community of San Basilio de Palenque and the population living in municipal or large cities headers.
many people in Colombia are racist and it doesnt have any sense because we all came from for the same cable, we are one family and we need to support and stay together.

In Colombia there a lot of afro descendants, consequence of that Africans that come to America in the roll of slaves to Spanish people. That was the beginning of Colombians, the relationship of two different groups. Now, that people that have a little more of characteristics of Africans are discriminated, forced to do something that they don’t want; their rights are violated, are abused, so, where is the respect for our compatriots, we can change this behavior, so do it.

ReplyDelete10.5% of Colombia’s population is represented by afro communities, most of them are radicated in San Andres Islas and San Basilio de Palenque, both of them quite excluded from developed societies.
ReplyDeleteBy these days these people are trying to succes by seeking for work and study in big cities, not an easy task. Although the country has rights which supports afrocolombians, there still are some people who have not leared how to treat and respect them as equals, therefore, it is not easy for them to succes and reach their goals.
Colombia still has work to do against racism and discrimination.
Afrro-colombians in our socity are being critized and excluded in contries as puerto rico, dominic republic, and south america. where the white or indigenous people are extremely rude with black people and tend to think that those people are thieves, dangerous, ignorants, delicuents. And this discrimination is really stupid to understand because we born with the same blood and culture, they gave us too much good customs. the treament which we give them is to bad in contrast that they gave us , because this people is very friendly if you talk with one afro-colombian and don´t insult them, they will help you in your work or anything
ReplyDeleteAfrocolombian descend from the African people who were enslave by the Spanish since 1510 to 1852; this people as many others actually lives in poor conditions, not because of the discrimination but of the government, which doesn't help people enough to give them a good life.
ReplyDeleteThis people actually is treated as anyone of us in Colombia, it's strange to find some people who discriminate the Afrocolombian.
We all know that the Afrocolombians were discriminated but we can say with proud that this is changing and actually Colombia is a multicultural country were everyone have the same rights than other people.
¿Who are afrocolombianos?
ReplyDeletethis is an important question because afrocolombianos are an important part of our society and bwe should know who they are
communities of African descendants enslaved by the Spanish and they got their liberty in in 1851 after the abolition of slavery in Colombia
Another names of Afrocolombianos
they are also called with this words
Negro
Morenos
Niches
Situation of Afrocolombianos
actually afrocolombianos have to face a lot of problems like they have to do the hardest jobs they have been displaced from their territories also they have limited access to education and also they have to deal with discriminatory treatment
this problematic is reflexed in the following statistics
The areas of greatest prevalence of Afro-Colombian population are those with the lowest levels of quality of life in the country.
The average per capita income of Afrocolombianos is $ 500 a year, compared to a national average of over $ 1,500.
75% of the African population earns less than the legal minimum wage and their life expectancy is at 20% below the national average.
In the departments of the Colombian Pacific, 100 young afrocolombianos got graduated from highschool and of this 100 only 2can go to the university
Approximately 85% of Afro-Colombians live in conditions of poverty and marginalization, all without access to basic public services.

More than a black race, Afrocolombians make part of an ethnic minority in our country. Even though for some people in our society they seems to be invisible, for me they are not; because I can see them everywhere: in my classrooms at the university, in the bus, in my neighborhood, in soccer and baseball teams, in professional offices in several companies, in congressional seats, behind radio´s microphones, in the armed forces, etc. However since the educational aspect have lacked the common vision that could lead us to understand the origins of their people and also to accept their values, to exalt their traditions and contribution to the formation of our nation. Nation that they share with us too.
ReplyDeleteMany people may not know what does it mean be Afro-Colombian, or do not know this culture, which is why are led by certain stereotypes, perceptions or prejudices that are erroneous and ill-founded.
ReplyDeleteFor example, sometimes we see how many people take the word "Afro-Colombian" as a synonym for something bad, intending to insultwithout knowing what it means historically, or that great characters have been Afro-Colombian, successful in multiple domains
You can see a study in Colombia about this topic here:
http://revistas.ces.edu.co/index.php/psicologia/article/view/2239/1770
Everytime when i hear "Afrocolombian", i can say that is a word with a strong meaning, that throughout our history expresses contrast two positions : the first one is about an ethnic group, people who every year have endured the scourge of being discriminated, racism in their lives has become a punishment that daily reminds them that their dark skin tone can not be more than shame.
ReplyDeleteThe second position refer to communities of black people, who have learned to Love as a family, they have a lot of different habits and behaviors of the rest of the society, people who know what it is to work hard. they show the charm of a culture that in spite of look like darkness, they always give us light with their smiles.
We should learn to use this word correctly and get out of our heads the need to exclude others just because they are different, racism is not something physical,
is a parameter that exists only in the mind.
The term Afro-Colombian refers to the descendants of Africa that’s lives in Colombia. Originally they were brought by the Spanish as slaves. In 1851 they obtained freedom and slavery was abolished in Colombia. Afro-Colombians inhabited the territory by free but they had neither right s nor citizenship. Slowly, they were integrated into the nation and for the first time in 1991 the Colombian political constitution recognized and mentioned them as legal individuals with ethnic rights and as ¨special¨ citizens.
DeleteEvery time an immigrant visits Colombia get surprised to notice that a big percentage of the population is constituted by Afro-colombians. The main concentration of black people is in the Caribbean coast, some departments of the Cauca valley and the pacific coastal, although they has immigrated to the majors cities such as Bogota and Medellin.
These terms are also used with respect to refer to Afro-Colombians: Negro, Moreno, niche.
Afro-Colombians constitute as an ethnic minority, which is subject to many discriminatory actions. This occurs because of the stigma that exists about black people. In many cases, they refer to them as thieves, criminals, aggressive, bitter, rapists, etc. But these assumptions are wrong on that point and they make them feel uncomfortable, like any other person they are looking to get ahead, educate their families and provide what more can generalizations.
ReplyDeleteIn spite of the criticisms and accusations many Colombians have overcome the obstacles of discrimination and are important figures in our country. We have singers, models, presenters, sportsmen teachers, congressmen, dancers, artists, etc., who try to show the great cultural diversity of Colombia and go diluting these erroneous beliefs that have evolved over black people.
However, they are still considered a minority but its current interest is to look for ethnic claims and demand a more appropriate education for their cultural reality. The mission of the youth is leaving behind those prejudices that keep us from our Colombian brothers, this uniting all possible way to end the conflict and provide a better picture of the Colombian people.

ReplyDeleteAfrocolombians are all the black people that lives in Colombia, whose ancestors were brought a long time ago from Spain to work.

In my personal opinion the graffiti art is one of the most creative art of the human history, it represents what happens in the society and thanks to this wall painting we can know what do artists think about the problems in our country . but grafiti also represent the beauty and diversity of our culture. the graffiti artists express with paintings their feelings and more personal opinions. I am against of that grafiti artistS that paint in places that they musn't. I think they should have their own space to show their creativity.

ReplyDeleteI think graffiti art is an art more than misunderstood. It is an art that often represents the issues in any specific situation, is a way to express their feelings non-violently, and sometimes to show that there are things with whom they disagree, it is a way to deliver messages of any kind, political, social, etc.
ReplyDeleteSince I came to Barranquilla, through the different routes that the buses follow when I go from home to university and vice versa I have observed in detail the considerable footprint of graffiti art in walls of whatever cardinal point of the city.. However it is worthwhile to perceive that there is a focus of mural expression near to the university corridor where does not matter the type of paint used because the issue is to "capture in swift strokes" the soul of Barranquillera society, its wit, its religious and political convictions and even its fears.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore it seems to me that the graffiti of the Mona Lisa is a clear example of graffiti art in Barranquilla and is my favourite .
I think graffiti is a method which one part of the population use to express their ways of thinking in a graphic way and in public places so that they are visible to all people and thereby try to expand a way of thinking, and this also improve the appearance of the city giving more colorful

In some parts of the world graffiti is seen as vandalism but in my opinion Graffiti should be recognized as art. This is a way people express their feelings, their ways of thinking , and is also something that brings original prints to the city instead of having plane walls.
